Have You Seen Philly Mag’s “50 Best Restaurants” List? Well, We Did and Had to Try Bastia!
So, if you’ve been keeping up with Philadelphia’s foodie scene, you’ve probably noticed that Bastia—the Corsican-inspired restaurant in Fishtown—has snagged the #1 spot on Philly Mag’s 50 Best Restaurants list. Naturally, we had to see what all the fuss was about!
And guess what? We got a table! We thought for sure it was going to be hard to get in, but we kept our times flexible and were able to reserve a spot without a hitch. (Phew!)
Finding the place wasn’t super easy – made it feel exclusive for sure! Maybe we just missed it, but there wasn’t a sign outside and we didn’t realize it was part of a hotel. Cue the awkward moment where we asked the hostess, “Uh… is this the right place?” But it turns out, yes, yes it was.
Once inside, we immediately felt the cozy, intimate vibes. It was small but oh-so-charming, perfect for a date night. The bar? Gorgeous. I mean, we’re talking a hidden gem here.
Now, let’s talk food. OMG, the appetizers! Seriously, I’m still daydreaming about them. We kicked things off with the Burrata (paired with blood orange, hazelnuts, and dark chocolate—yes, dark chocolate!) and the salt-baked beets with Marcona almonds and ricotta. I know, it sounds like a weird combo, but trust me—these were some of the best burrata and beets we’ve ever had. Perfection in every bite!

For the main event, we had the pork belly (just wow) and the Grass-fed entrecôte (which is basically like a super fancy strip steak). Both were unreal.

The only slight downside was the drinks. They’re a little on the pricier side. We went with a bottle of wine, but next time, we might hit up a nearby spot for a drink beforehand to save a few bucks. If your up for spending a little more the cocktails did sound great!
But overall? We’ll definitely be back. It’s the kind of place that feels special but doesn’t break the bank if you’re careful. Highly recommend!
